The Big Sky Rolling Pin

The Big Sky Rolling Pin

The famous Big Sky Bread Company Rolling Pin

It's like passing the torch in the bread business. Whenever a baker leaves Big Sky to take a new job, or as we say, move on to more golden wheat fields, we present them with a rolling pin signed by all the employees.

Well today, we had an incredible surprise! The very first baker we hired 24 years ago, Tina, stopped by to see our new bakery. And... she brought her rolling pin and some vintage pictures with her! Not only that, she was accompanied by Teresa, one of our other original bakers from back in the start-up days. Needless to say, it was a great day at Big Sky.

What a great surprise to see that Big Sky is back in Birmingham in a mortar and brick store! I have great memories of working with Jeff and Patti in the Mountain Brook Store as a baker. In addition to the delicious breads and baked goods we made, there were always good co-workers to make each day pleasant. I especially enjoyed making those cinammon rolls and tea rings. My rolling pin hangs up in my computer area and each time I see it I am reminded that I was part of those early days of a great institution. Good luck and Best Wishes! Ken Lavelle

So sweet of Tina and Teresa to drop by the new bakery in Liberty Park for a visit after all these years! Love the vintage pics from the early days and the story of the rolling pin! ❤️
